Life Insurance Council of New York, Inc.
LICONY is
the only state domestic trade association representing the
life insurance companies of the State of New York. LICONY's membership
has expanded to 46 member companies and 17 associate members, and 14
allied professional firms. LICONY speaks with a single voice on behalf
of the life insurance industry, and carries the industry's message to
the Governor, the Legislature, the State Insurance Department and other
important agencies.
THREE CLASSES OF MEMBERSHIP
1. Members.
Any
domestic legal reserve life insurance company organized and doing
business in the State of New York is eligible for election to
membership, provided it is recommended to the Board of Directors by the
unanimous vote of the Membership Committee.
Members
are entitled to serve as full voting members on substantive issue
subcommittees, and on the Legislative & Regulatory Committee of LICONY.
In addition, Members elect and may serve on the Board of Directors.
Members are entitled to attend all meetings of the LICONY Legislative &
Regulatory Committee, the regular meetings of the Board of Directors,
the Annual Legislative & Regulatory Conference, and the Annual Meeting.
Members are also entitled to participate in bi-weekly conference calls
of the Legislative & Regulatory Committee, receive all LICONY
publications, including the weekly HOTLINE newsletter and the
daily HOTLINKS report, and have full access to the LICONY
website.
2. Associate Members.
A
non-domestic legal reserve life insurance company doing business in New
York State may apply for membership by submitting a request to join
LICONY as an Associate Member. A company is not eligible for associate
membership if it is the parent, subsidiary, or affiliate of a New York
domestic life insurance company that is eligible for membership in
LICONY, but has not joined.
Associate
Members are entitled to serve as full voting members on substantive
issue subcommittees , and on the Legislative & Regulatory Committee of
LICONY. Associate Members may not, however, serve on the Board of
Directors. Associate Members are entitled to attend all meetings of the
LICONY Legislative & Regulatory Committee, the regular meetings of the
Board of Directors, and the Annual Meeting. Associate Members are also
entitled to participate in bi-weekly conference calls of the Legislative
& Regulatory Committee, receive all LICONY publications, including the
weekly HOTLINE newsletter and the daily HOTLINKS report,
and have full access to the LICONY website.
3. Allied Professional Firm Members.
Accounting, actuarial, law, and other professional firms may apply for
membership by submitting a request to join LICONY as an Allied
Professional Firm Member.
Allied Professional Firm Members are entitled to attend all meetings of
the LICONY Legislative & Regulatory Committee, the regular meetings of
the Board of Directors, the Annual Legislative & Regulatory Conference,
and the Annual Meeting. Alled Professional Firm Members are also
entitled to receive the weekly HOTLINE newsletter and
the daily HOTLINKS report, and have full access to the LICONY
website.
BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP

A
permanent, professional legislative and regulatory lobbying presence
in Albany and Manhattan, providing important advocacy and information
on New York insurance legislation and regulations. The opportunity to
participate on LICONY committees, and subcommittees that recommend or
determine, and implement the policies of the membership and the Board
of Directors. Currently, LICONY has over 30 substantive committees
and subcommittees, examples of which include the Legislative &
Regulatory Committee, the Tax Subcommittee, the Actuarial & Reserves
Subcommittee and the Policy Forms Filing Subcommittee.

The
opportunity to participate in NYSID/LICONY task forces and working
groups that meet regularly with Insurance Department staff to discuss
and resolve issues of interest or concern to the New York life
insurance industry; examples include the NYSID/LICONY Actuarial &
Reserves Task Force, the NYSID/LICONY Policy Form Filing Task Force,
and the NYSID/LICONY Market Conduct & Examinations Task Force.

opportunity to participate in LICONY's Annual Albany "Days on the
Hill" meetings, the traditional Anniversary Celebration events, the
Annual Legislative & Regulatory Conference in Cooperstown, Legislative
& Regulatory Committee meetings, Board of Directors meetings, and the
Annual Membership Meeting in December.

opportunity to attend periodic educational seminars on regulatory
issues of importance; e.g., the Annual Speed-to-Market & Market
Conduct Seminar and the Annual Tax Conference.

informed of New York State legislative, regulatory and political
developments as they occur through bi-weekly conference calls of the
Legislative & Regulatory Committee, the LICONY HOTLINE weekly
newsletter and the daily HOTLINKS report, as full access
to the password-protected LICONY website.
